Regarding the Aug. 8 op-ed “Laurel Libby is no hero,” I felt it necessary to respond to the author’s argument that said “I’ve read letters saying it was unfair to leave the people she represents without a voice in government. However, that was Libby’s own fault, not that of the House speaker whom she sued.”
This is absolutely false. Libby’s voice was stolen by Speaker Ryan Fecteau. How the author could argue contrary is mind-boggling. Fecteau decided that her offense deserved this punishment. He is the one who said this should be a bipartisan motion. Then he proceeded to ram it through on a party-line vote. Fecteau is the one who stole Libby’s vote.
The only people who have the right to take away Libby’s vote are the people of her district. And they have every right to do so next year. The author, and Ryan Fecteau, would do well to remember that.
