Sunday’s Portland Hearts of Pine men’s professional soccer game at Fitzpatrick Stadium has been postponed because of travel issues involving visiting Spokane Velocity.

The Hearts of Pine announced the game’s postponement Sunday morning at 10:05 a.m. The USL League One regular-season game was supposed to begin at 6 p.m. USL1 said the travel issues were caused by “severe weather” delays.

The match will be rescheduled, according to the release. The USL1 regular-season ends in late October, with Portland’s final scheduled home match set for Saturday, Oct. 25. All tickets will be honored for that rescheduled date. All ticket holders will be notified of the date change as soon as possible.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. We look forward to seeing you at the rescheduled match—and hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday,” the Portland club posted.

According to Damian Foley, the Hearts of Pine director of fan experience and media contact, the Spokane Velocity team was supposed to fly into Portland on Saturday but have been stuck in Chicago since Saturday and were still there Sunday morning when the decision was made to postpone the game.

“We’ll work to find a date that works for both teams,” Foley said.

The overnight thunderstorms around the Chicago area flooded highways and tore the roof off one apartment building.

Portland will remain just outside the eighth and final playoff position with a USL1 record of 4-4-9, good for 21 points. Eighth-place Texoma FC (5-8-6, 21 points) holds the tiebreaker advantage with more wins. Spokane (10-2-5) is second in the league standings with 35 points. Spokane and Portland played to an early-season 0-0 tie in Washington.
