Police and state fire marshals arrested a juvenile Monday for two separate arson cases, according to a Maine Public Safety news release.

Rangeley fire and police departments requested the Maine Office of State Fire Marshal assist Friday with an investigation of a fire at a home at 50 Pleasant St. in Rangeley.

The two-story home with an attached garage had been ransacked and small fires had been set, the release said. The fires self-extinguished causing minimal damage.

The home is owned by a Massachusetts resident, the release said.

Investigators identified a 14-year-old male suspect who was on supervised release for a prior unrelated crime. The investigation also revealed the teen was involved in a separate fire at Saddleback View Apartments on Aug. 9, officials said.

After establishing probable cause for both fires, the teen was arrested and charged with arson related to the Aug. 9 incident, the release said.

The Friday fire is an ongoing investigation.

Rangeley police transported the teen to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.

Further information was not available due to the suspect’s age.
