John L White Jr.

WEST GARDINER – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John L White, Jr. on August 15, 2025. He left us too soon at the age of 61 after a brief illness with cancer.

John was born on Sept. 27, 1963, in Augusta, to John L. White, Sr. and Maxine C. Roy. He was predeceased by his parents, and grandparents.

John is survived by his son Dylan J Messer; and granddaughters, the loves of his life, Nova-Lynn and Everleigh; sisters Mona Allen and partner Skeet, Sheri and husband Jon Rowe, stepbrother Ted Pelletier, Alfred and John Morton, stepsisters Mary Morton and Charlotte Colby; nieces Alisha and April, nephews Jason, Jamie, Will, Rob, Stephen and Chris; also grandnieces, grandnephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

John had a special place in his heart for his Aunt Maryann and Uncle Bob, whom he had lived with for a short period during his teenage years and who was there every day by his side at the hospital. He also had a special bond with Cousin Crystal who he lovingly calls “the little cousin sister” and Cousin James who provided him with so much support during his illness.

John had many struggles during his life, but he never let them get in his way. In John’s younger years he spent some time in the Navy and Maine National Guard. He was a great musician with the ability to play guitar, harmonica and fiddle all self-taught and enjoyed completing models mainly ships some so large they would take up the dining room table. John attended school in Augusta and Gardiner, and his greatest achievements were receiving an associated degree in Marine Biology Oceanography and bachelors in Natural Sciences. John enjoyed reading and was very knowledgeable about history and could go on and on about the history of Maine.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME.
