I support the voter ID referendum for Maine, and recommend that all others do, too. Here are two reasons to consider.
Being from a military family and having voted in many different states, voting in Maine was a surprising outlier to me. I remember being almost shocked that they didn’t ask for my ID. Maine should keep up with other states. I don’t want to take a chance that my vote will be canceled by a dishonest person.
Recently, Charlie Dingman, the chair of the Maine Democratic Party, said that voter ID could cost 13,000 Democrat votes (and not a single Republican vote). That is a lot of votes in Maine elections, and if even a fraction of this many votes depends on anonymity, something is wrong in Maine’s election system. We can increase transparency with voter ID.
Maine should join the 36 other states that include voter ID as part of their fair election policies.
