Bertrand J. Ayotte
AUGUSTA – Bertrand J. Ayotte of Augusta, died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 23 2025, with family at his bedside.
“Bert”, son of Oneil and Martha (Roy) Ayotte was raised in Van Buren, Maine. He served in the United States Army Corps, 3rd Infantry Division from 1955-1957. He was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a proud member of “Le Club Calumet” in Augusta. Bert’s profession for much of his life was a pipefitter, although he was skilled in all areas and considered a “Jack of all trades”. Due to his extensive knowledge and innovative ideas while working at Statler paper mill in Augusta, he was awarded the title of honorary engineer.
His interests included painting, playing pool, playing music at the “jams”, spending time with friends and family, and most importantly, helping others in any way possible, utilizing his multitude of skills, always putting others ahead of himself. He was known for his creative intellect and ability to build and fix almost anything, his sense of humor, optimistic demeanor, and uncanny ability to defy chronological age.
Bert was the last of 11 siblings predeceased by his mother and father, sisters Mildred, Jeannette, Mona, Francine, Laurie, brothers Alyre, Alphedor, Dominique, Clarence, Daniel, wife Jeannine, and daughter Suzanne.
He is survived by his daughter Sandra, grandson Shawn and his wife Andrea, great grandson Camden, and great granddaughter Kylin.
His giving nature spans generations, impacting all who carry his memory.
There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6, at 10 a.m., at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.
Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.
