I was one of 800 volunteers who helped put voter ID on the ballot. I continue to support this effort. It is vitally important that we restore faith in the security of our elections. This bill will go quite a way in doing that.
Unless they have nefarious reasons, I can’t understand anyone objecting to this bill. Particularly because the state will provide for free a picture ID.
Recently I returned an item to Home Depot. Even though I had my receipt, I still had to show a photo ID before they would make a refund. Two weeks ago, I stayed at a hotel. Even though I had reservations for months and the hotel had my credit card info, I still had to show a photo ID upon check-in. If one must show ID for the earlier examples, it is then ludicrous to think that voting is less important, and that a photo ID should not be needed.
I will be voting “Yes” on Nov. 4 for voter ID. I encourage all Mainers to vote “Yes” as well so that we can restore trust and confidence in our elections.
