Linda M. Campbellton
TUCSON, Ariz. – Linda Mae Campbellton of Tucson, Ariz., passed away on Aug. 8, 2025. She was 81.
Linda was born on March 7, 1944, in Boston, Mass., and was the daughter of the late Jane E. (Daly) and Albert T. Mitchell. She grew up in Augusta, and attended local schools. Linda received her high school diploma from the Academy of St. Joseph in South Berwick, in 1962.
Following graduation, she married Robert Earl LaChance and welcomed two daughters, Wanda and Tami. Robert later passed away in 1980.
Linda was employed as a secretary and administrative assistant for several businesses and governmental offices and began a lifelong interest in and passion for the growing field of computer technology.
Linda married John Campbellton in 1987 and together they operated a computer training business for six years in Gardiner, Maine called Computers, Etc. Following John’s untimely death in 1998, Linda moved to Phoenix, and later Tucson, Arizona in search of warmer weather and new career opportunities.
She decided late in life to pursue a college education. She enrolled in the undergraduate program at the University of Phoenix and received her Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree in 2009. She was the undergraduate selected to speak about her experiences as an adult learner at her Commencement Ceremony in 2009 to an audience that surpassed 5,000 attendees. She subsequently completed a Master of Science in Information Technology Engineering degree in 2012.
For the last 15 years of her professional career, Linda was employed as a computer trainer for doctors and health care personnel concerning electronic medical records. The first four years were spent teaching at multiple military bases around the country. She then served as a senior computer trainer for 11 years at Davis-Montham Air Force Base in Tucson and Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, retiring in 2017.
Linda was an avid reader of mystery novels and considered herself to be one of the original “Trekkies” (Star Trek). She was a passionate animal rights supporter, and for several years ran Squeak’s Retreat, providing shelter for many of her favorite breed, Pekinese dogs. After retirement, she also operated a candy business called East Coast Confections, so named for her love of her home state, Maine, and the coast that she enjoyed.
Linda is survived by her brother, Thomas H. Mitchell of Culver City, California, and her sister, Deborah J. Barry and her husband, Ted Barry of Farmingdale, Maine, four daughters: Ann and her husband Dana LeBarron of Coplin Plantation, Maine; Wanda Witham of Tucson,
Arizona; Tami and her husband Shaun Farnsworth of Sidney, Maine; and Caryn and her husband Dan Brunelle of Augusta, Maine, also step sons, Josh and Nathan Campbellton and grandchildren; Ashley Caswell, Riqui Witham, Jamie Witham, Chelsea Merry, Samantha Merry, Anthony Farnsworth, Emily Hart, Kaitlyn Rocque and husband Jon, Frankie and Ryan Brunelle, Prudence Smith and her husband Bill and their children, and Michael Feegel, and his wife Katie and their children, as well as great granddaughters Remi Merry, Donna Crockett, Jessyca Hallett, Sabrina and Daniel Caswell, and Addison, Emmie, Claire and Della Rocque, Zayden Witham, and 1, great- great grandson, Carson Crockett. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as many lifelong friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Sept. 13, 2025 at Homewood Suites at 377 Western Ave in Augusta, across from Margarita’s, from 1-4 p.m. Everyone is welcomed to come and share stories.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda’s memory may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
