Skowhegan leapfrogged Biddeford and Cheverus and now is ranked first in the Varsity Maine field hockey poll. Aiding the River Hawks’ jump was victories over Mt. Blue (2-1 last Tuesday) and Leavitt (3-1 on Friday).

Biddeford, last week’s No. 1, and Cheverus are now tied for second, which is fitting because the Tigers and the Stags played to a tie in the their season-opening matchup.

Five voters picked Skowhegan No. 1. Biddeford, Messalonskee (ranked fourth), Yarmouth (fifth) and Scarborough (seventh) each received a first-place vote. The Red Storm, Belfast and Mt. Blue join the rankings this week.

The Varsity Maine field hockey poll is based on games played before Sept. 16, 2025. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
