Dr. Robert Mulvahill Lent
MONMOUTH – Dr. Robert Mulvahill Lent, 68, a loving father, devoted husband, and a protector of earth.
After 27 courageous months of battling cancer, Bobby passed away peacefully in his home with his wife by his side.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 35 years, his two sons Patrick and Michael. His older Irish twin brother Jim, his younger sister Patricia, and his baby brother Steven. As well as several nieces and nephews.
Dr. Robert Lent started his journey in life at George Washington Hospital and quickly became the sparkle in his mother’s eyes. His family moved to London in the summer of 1968 where he learned even the troublemakers can still win the love of their mothers. He attended college at Radford University in 1982 where he earned his Bachelor of Science, then went on to achieve his Masters in Geology at North Carolina State. That wasn’t enough to satisfy his desire to further his education as he went on to achieve his Ph.D. in Geology at the University of New Hampshire. Something only one percent of the world’s population has achieved. During his stint at UNH he met the love of his life in October of 1988 in Massachusetts. Soon after the two became married in July of 1990. He began his career at USGS as a hydrologist in 1990 stationed in North Dakota where he and his wife introduced two sons into this world, Patrick and Michael. In 1994 he transferred to Massachusetts to become an area water quality specialist. He finally was able to keep the promise he made to his wife and move back to Maine where he became the Chief of the USGS in 1998 and then went on to later become the Director of Maine Water Science Center.
Special thanks to Dr. Florman, Dr. Lu Emerson, and his PA Sam Gagnon. Also, to every health care member that helped him along with his battle with cancer.
