I’m old enough to remember, during the Second World War in Brunswick, Maine (where I’ve lived all my life), everybody from the right and the left joined together as one fighting fascists and Nazis — not to mention the Japanese.
I have had relatives who served with Joshua Chamberlain in the Civil War. They also served in the First World War, the Second World War, Korea and in Vietnam. Now, I have a grandson over in the Middle East. He’s the second in command of a Coast Guard ship.
I am in my 80s now and I have seen this country going downhill for the last 60 years. It seems that Democrats always get us into wars and the Republicans bail us out — and they both make money from it.
I got out of the Democratic Party because I could see it was going socialist and now it’s going communist — just exactly what the president of Russia predicted at the time. And now I hear that Bowdoin College is graduating communists; one of them (Zohran Mamdani) is running for mayor of New York City. Joshua Chamberlain must be rolling over in his grave.
I know all my relatives and anyone who served in the military must be totally disgusted. Maine is not the way it used to be. Too many liberals and wackos have moved into the state and taken over our government. For God’s sake, wake up and vote.
