Skowhegan solidified its No. 1 ranking in the Varsity Maine field hockey poll by handing Messalonskee (now ranked seventh) its first loss of the season on Saturday. Below the River Hawks is where the drama is happening.

Sanford joins the rankings and is showing signs of being a force in Class A South with its recent win over Noble and by playing No. 3 Biddeford to a tie last Wednesday. Though Biddeford is still No. 1 in the Heal point standings, that draw has finally created space between the Tigers and Cheverus in the Varsity Maine poll — the Stags not only took over second place from Biddeford, they have a nine-point edge in voting points. Cheverus and Biddeford, who tied 4-4 in their season-opening showdown, were tied for second last week and separated by two points the week before.

Yarmouth has moved up to fourth, while Mt. Ararat joins Sanford as newcomers to the rankings.

The Varsity Maine field hockey poll is based on games played before Sept. 23, 2025. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
