Executive orders are not laws; John Adams understood the importance of the difference. In a recent letter (“Those angry about ICE forget we are a government of laws,” Sept. 8), regarding the quote from John Adams, “We are a country of laws and not of men,” the writer failed to note that “laws” are created by Congress and then signed by the president.
“Executive orders” are created by a single person. President Trump is using this approach
to bypass Congress, which would not pass most of his “orders” into real laws.
