The short-handed Portland Hearts of Pine lost 1-0 to Union Omaha on Wednesday night in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Hearts of Pine kept a number of regulars out of the starting lineup, and coach Bobby Murphy missed the game due to illness. Center back Sean Vinberg and left back Nathan Messer were on the only two players in Portland’s starting lineup who have started more than 20 matches this season.

Union Omaha, which improved to 10-11-5, scored in the 47th minute when Prosper Kasim one-timed a shot by Hearts of Pine goalie Kash Oladapo.

Portland fell to 10-5-10 and has a two-point lead over Union Omaha for the fifth spot in the USL League One standings. The Hearts of Pine trail Spokane Velocity by three points for fourth place, which would net them a home quarterfinal game.

Portland returns to action at 5 p.m. Saturday against Forward Madison at Fitzpatrick Stadiudm in Portland.
