
Stella Diane Brown
AUGUSTA – Stella Diane Brown, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, after a short illness. Her loving family was by her side.
Stella was born March 3, 1936, in Waterville, Maine, the daughter of the late Elwyn and Marguarite (Cameron) Mullen.
Stella attended Richmond High School before ultimately graduating from Gardiner Area High School. She was the first Teacher’s Aid ever hired by MSAD#11 specifically for the then termed “Resource Room”. She worked for the school district for 28 years before retiring in 2002, she then worked part-time for another nine years. She was a longtime member of the Pittston Congregational Church, the Pittston Community Daughters and the Pittston Fire Auxiliary. Stella lived in Pittston for over 50 years before moving to the Inn at City Hall in Augusta two years ago.
Stella was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Donald Brown; a brother, Charles Forrest, three sisters, Doris Reed, Alice Staples and Sondra Oaks. She is survived by her sister, Connie Dyer of Augusta; daughters, Teresa Hatch (Richard) of South China, Donna Brown of Gardiner, a son, Darrin Brown (Lori) of West Deptford, NJ; grandsons, Ryan Suga (Nicole Durkee) of Sebago, Scott Hickey (Libbie Williams) of West Gardiner, Cody Hickey (Mikaela) of West Gardiner, Dylan Brown of West Deptford NJ, Casey Brown of West Deptford, NJ; and numerous great grandchildren that she loved dearly. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and friends who will sadly miss her.
Visiting hours celebrating Stella’s life will be held on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a service at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave, Gardiner, Burial will follow at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mount Vernon Rd, Augusta. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
