Donald Trump often claims to be the champion of American values. But is he?
Is supporting the killing and deliberate starvation of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians in Gaza an American value? Is illegally arresting, detaining and deporting people without due process of the law an American value? Is bullying, threatening and using the justice system to deny Americans their First Amendment rights, just because you don’t like what they say, an American value? Is repeatedly violating the Constitution, which he swore an oath to preserve, protect and defend, an American value?
Presidents govern with the consent of the governed. So, if we turn a blind eye or support a president who does these things, then what does that say about our values? It’s time to remind Donald Trump that he works for us … and that he must represent our values.
