
Gail A. (Gay) Williams
WINTHROP – Gail A. (Gay) Williams, 78, passed away on Sept. 26, 2025, after a long illness, at home with her loving family by her side.
Gail was born in Augusta on March 6, 1947. She was the daughter of Roland Gay and Muriel A. (McLean) Fortin. Gail grew up in Augusta and attended Cony High School.
On June 27, 1964, she married the love of her life, Donald Williams. They had four wonderful children.
After high school, Gail worked at the shoe mill in Dexter. In 1971, Gail and Don bought the old Coopers Market, which became Gail’s Market, where they remained and operated for 30 years. Gail was known for having the best Italian sandwiches in town. Family and friends also enjoyed her amazing apple pies.
Gail loved spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed attending dances with her husband Donald, a good card game, baking, reading, and attending children and grandchildren’s sporting events. Gail was a loving mother and friend, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her loving husband, Donald, Gail was preceded in death by her brother, Roland Gay Jr. of Winthrop, sister, Pat Fry of Pennsylvania; niece, Danielle Judkins of Skowhegan, nephew, Daniel Farrington of Sidney.
She is survived by her children, Donald Williams Jr. and wife Deborah of Richmond, Bill Williams and wife Terri, Darren Williams, and Barbie Petkers and husband Robert, all of Winthrop; grandchildren, Ashley West and husband Nick of Bowdoinham, Brandy Martens and husband Sean of Litchfield, Austin Ayotte and wife Sammie of Fairfield, Emma Ayotte of Winthrop, Aaron Petkers of Winthrop, Haley Williams of Winthrop and Connor Williams of Winthrop; great-grandchildren, Nora and Delilah West of Bowdoinham, Dean Martens of Litchfield, Jaxon Ayotte of Fairfield, plus three bonus great-grandchildren, Hunter, Damion and Fenix Woodsome of Fairfield; her sister, Carolyn Gile and her husband Herm of Sidney, her brother-in-law, Curtis Williams and wife Brigette of Readfield; nephew, Devin Williams of Fayette; nephew, Chris Judkins of Skowhegan and his children Cassity and Titis; her sister-in-law, Wanda Gay of Turner; nephew, Roland Gay III and his wife Joann Gay and their children, Julia, Joseph and Maddie; niece, Angela Michaud of Turner and her children, Steven and Collin; nephew, Donald Farrington Jr. of East Machias and his son Tyler.
A graveside service for Donald and Gail Williams will be held at East Readfield Cemetery, Plains Road, Readfield on Monday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
