Thornton Academy’s convincing win over Portland in a matchup of last week’s top two teams has moved the Golden Trojans back to No. 1 in the Varsity Maine football poll after a couple weeks away.

Voters were mixed on where to rank Portland after its 36-0 setback. Some put the Bulldogs third, while others voted them fourth or fifth. They ultimately ended up tied for fourth with Kennebunk.

Bonny Eagle, which faces Portland this week, has firmly established itself as No. 2, while Cony jumps up to No. 3 after routing Fryeburg. Gardiner, which is now 5-0, joins the rankings at No. 8 and Bangor at No. 10.

The Varsity Maine football poll is based on games played before Oct. 7, 2025. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
