The White Barn Inn, a historic 26-room hotel in Kennebunk, is No. 17 on Conde Nast Traveler’s 2025 list of the 50 Best Hotels in the World, and it’s No. 1 on the magazine’s list of the 24 Best Hotels in the Northeast.

It’s the sixth year in a row that the inn has been recognized by the Conde Nast Readers’ Choice Awards. More than 757,000 votes were cast in the 38th annual readers’ survey, putting the inn on the latest Traveler’s Gold List of world favorites, announced this week.

In recommending the White Barn Inn, readers said they “indulged in all the decadent property has to offer,” such as dining on lobster fettuccine with cognac coral butter sauce, relaxing for a 90-minute Himalayan salt stone massage and enjoying a hand-packed picnic lunch on the beach.

Also winning spots on the magazine’s list of regional favorites were The Docent’s Collection (No. 5), a 26-room hotel in Portland’s Old Port; the Longfellow Hotel (No. 6), a 48-room hotel in Portland’s West End; Dunes on the Waterfront (No. 19), a 21-room hotel in Ogunquit; and The Claremont Hotel (No. 22), a 52-room hotel in Southwest Harbor, “on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island.”
