TURNER — An Androscoggin County deputy shot a driver Friday night after attempting to serve an arrest warrant, leading to a police chase and car crash on Route 4.

Androscoggin County deputy Kurt Fegan went to locate Christopher Lebrun in Turner to arrest him on an outstanding felony warrant, according to a Androscoggin County release on Facebook. At 10:15 p.m., Fegan spotted Lebrun on Plains Road. Lebrun did not stop as directed, and Fegan pursued him to the North Main Street and General Turner Hill Road, where Lebrun crashed his vehicle into a tree.

As Fegan exited his police car to confront Lebrun, Lebrun emerged from his vehicle and pointed a gun at Fegan, police said. Fegan then shot Lebrun two times.

A LifeFlight helicopter was called to transport Lebrun to Maine Medical Center. There is no update on his condition at this time. Fegan injured his knee during the incident and was transported to Central Maine Medical Center and later released.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office criminally charged Lebrun for his conduct, according to the news release. The Office of the Maine Attorney General will investigate the use of force by Fegan, who was placed on administrative leave, as is protocol when an officer uses deadly force.
