The cause of an early morning fire that destroyed a mobile home in St. Albans is being investigated, the town’s fire chief said.

Firefighters from several towns were called to the unoccupied mobile home at 96 Snow Road around 2 a.m., Chief Paul Doughty of the St. Albans Fire Department said.

A firefighter who lives nearby was awake in the middle of the night when he noticed a glow in the area, discovered the fire and reported it, Doughty said.

“We got some water on the fire pretty quick,” Doughty said. “The fire was fairly advanced. It was in the beginning stages of collapsing. So, it’s a total loss. It did end up collapsing.”

No injuries were reported.

The Office of State Fire Marshal was contacted to investigate the cause, Doughty said.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss could not be reached Monday morning for further information.

Fire departments from Hartland, Corinna, Dexter and Canaan responded, although some responding units were canceled, according to Doughty. He estimated there were more than 20 firefighters on scene.

“The operation went smoothly,” Doughty said.
