Dwight Kent Lucas Jr.

READFIELD – Dwight Kent Lucas Jr. 92, passed away at Maine General Medical Center Oct. 9, 2025, with his family by his side.

Dwight is known by many as “Junior”. He was born on Sept. 17, 1933, in Farmingdale, the sixth of nine children to Dwight Kent Sr. and Mildred Amber Lucas.

He was a resident of Readfield for 85 years. Dad completed eighth grade at Readfield Elementary. Dad met the love of his life and married Donna Branch on Jan. 27, 1956. They raised eight children.

“Jr” worked in the woods most of his life for Lenny Reay, Everett Mace, Bob Sherwood, his brother Burleigh, and Jeff Northrop. In his retirement, he did some junking or could be found building picnic tables.

He loved his time spent with his grandchildren making memories. He cherished that time the most. Among his work or hobbies, he loved hunting, looking and waiting for “The Big One!”. He loved his music and always enjoyed any chance he got for a dance or a drink.

Dwight is survived by his eight children, Timmy of Northwood, N.H., Bonnie (Tim) Norris of Readfield, Steve (Debbie) of Sidney, Roger (Zina) of Readfield, Karen Rollins (Rob Hunt) of Sabattus, Lori King of Readfield, Myrtle Lucas (Joe Ridley) of Livermore, Diane Hanson of Readfield; two siblings, Stewart Lucas of Manchester, Peggy Parks of Readfield and his sister-in-law, Gloria Lucas of Readfield. Grandpa has 24 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Dwight was predeceased by his parents; wife, Donna; siblings Lawrence, Paul, Philip, Burleigh, Kenneth and Betty.

A graveside service is planned for Oct. 19, at 11:30 a.m. at East Readfield Cemetery. A celebration of life and family gathering will follow at Manchester Lions Club at 1 p.m. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Robert’s Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
