Earlier this month, I was on Route 201, coming out of Gardiner toward the highway. An old black Lab was walking beside the road facing incoming traffic; he was wearing no collar or tag and seemed lost. I pulled over and he immediately headed to me. I was trying to prevent him from going into the road when a newish, white pickup truck came speeding toward Gardiner and struck him full- on. The driver never attempted to slow down.
This was a gentle, old, gray-muzzled black Lab with the bumps these dogs get with age. He was looking for someone to help him. A kind person stopped and helped put him in my car. I took him to the nearest vet but he did not survive.
This sweet dog did not deserve this. This was a display of the lowest kind of humanity. If there is such a thing as karma, I hope it finds this person in the white truck.
