As the music world mourns the death of Ace Frehley, a founding member of KISS, we take a look back at an interview we conducted with him ahead of a 1998 performance in Maine.
Frehley, who died Thursday at 74, was the original lead guitarist and founding member of the glam rock n’ roll band KISS. Frehley captivated audiences with his elaborate galactic makeup and smoking guitar.
In a November 1998 interview with music reviewer Lucky Clark for Central Maine Newspapers, Frehley talked about an upcoming performance for KISS at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland. At the time, the original members of KISS had decided to reunite and once again don their iconic face paint and “Destroyer” tour outfits.
“I’m just happy to get up there and be able to play to sold-out houses all over the country,” Frehley said in the interview. “And for two hours (we) give the kids the best show they’ve ever seen (and) get their money’s worth. It allows me to let go and just be the ‘Space-Ace’ again.”
