As a disabled senior, I am deeply opposed to Question 1 and its proposed changes to Maine voting laws. Up until 2024, I was pleased to be an in-person voter in every election for 63 years, except for 15 years when I lived overseas and always voted absentee. Now my health requires me to vote absentee and have a friend carry my ballot to the nearest drop box, which I understand Question 1 would limit.
One of my granddaughters is serving in the Mercy Corps in Guyana. She wants to vote, but Question 1 could make it nearly impossible for her. My neighbors are seniors and many are disabled (a high percentage of seniors voted absentee last election). Will we take away their right to vote?
I believe that those who will vote “Yes” on this bill do not understand the implications of this question. Vote “No” on Question 1.
