A fire Saturday destroyed a Fairfield home, and two firefighters were injured while battling the blaze, fire officials said.

Crews were called to 169 Ridge Road around 2 p.m. Saturday for a report of a structure fire and struck a second alarm as the fire was visible from Western Avenue to firefighters on their way, the Fairfield-Benton Fire-Rescue Department said in Facebook post. 

The home was a total loss, Chief Travis Leary said Monday.

Fire officials have ruled the cause accidental, Leary said. 

One firefighter was injured and taken to the emergency room at MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer Center for Health in Waterville for evaluation, the fire department said. The firefighter was released by Saturday evening. Another firefighter who was injured was treated on scene, a department official said. 

Two people lived at the home and were staying with family and friends, according to Leary.

Fairfield property records show that Charles H. Quimby owns the home and land.

Fire departments from Waterville, Winslow, Clinton, Skowhegan, Oakland and Albion assisted with mutual aid. Crews cleared the scene by 6 p.m.
