Roger H. Farren

AUGUSTA – MSgt Roger H. Farren, Ret., passed away on Oct. 15, 2025, at the age of 79 due to multiple medical conditions related to exposure to Agent Orange. He was born in Castine, on Nov. 25, 1945.

Roger attended Bucksport High School, where he was chosen to participate in the All-State Choir all four years and was also part of the U.S. Naval Reserves. After graduation, he transferred and served active-duty USAF during the Vietnam War, and then USAF Air Guard from which he retired honorably in October 1996 after over 21 years of service.

Roger worked for the IRS before transitioning to the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked until his retirement. After retirement, he would join the H&R Block teams during tax season.

Roger was an avid bowler, enjoying several decades as a member of many local teams. In his retirement, he enjoyed taking several cruises, both close to the U.S. and overseas. He was also an avid fan of Texas sports teams.

He was preceded by his parents, Harley H. and Virginia F. Farren, brother, David W. Farren and his late wife, Margaret L. Farren.

He is survived by his spouse Joyce Farren, and his children: MSgt James (Tawny) Farren – Ret. of Texas, Regina Farren (Conor Key) of North Carolina, and Matthew (Lorna) Farren of New Hampshire; his stepchildren: Keleine (Scott) Laflin of Readfield, James (Nicole) Weymouth of Manchester, Julie Murphy (Chip Salisbury) of Palmyra, and Tiffany Kaplan of North Monmouth; 18 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his younger siblings: James (Annie) Farren, Jan-Marie Temple and Dorothy (Robert) Nelson.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 28, at 11 a.m., at Penney Memorial United Baptist Church, Water St., Augusta. Burial will follow in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
