In their reporting on the careers of Jane Goodall and David Attenborough, CNN, NPR and PBS all skipped mention of their many statements warning of dire consequences for wildlife, their habitats and us if we don’t find ways to cork the population-growth genie — and soon.

It may be significant that most such warnings come from wildlife biologists and not from newspaper editorial writers or politicians. Could it be that to rise in these professions one must worship at the altar of the modern secular religion of endless growth? In my view, “more manmade stuff for ever-more people” isn’t really a philosophy for the long haul.
