It occurred to me this past Sunday that I very much miss Amy Paradsz and her highly entertaining “Society Notebook” of photographs and editorial, covering so many of our worthy nonprofit events. It was not only entertainment but an informative way of keeping up on the many benevolent organizations bring these supportive groups in Maine to our attention.
And yes “supporting” is what they are in their fundraising efforts, providing social services and your paper was offering the reader information they have very little opportunity to find elsewhere. These organizations are raising funds, much of which have been tanked recently with the federal government’s budget cutbacks. The paper’s edition of “Society Notebook” was an ideal way for these groups to inform the public of their existence and to raise funds for their cause.
I think it is so important that your readers continue to be kept up to date on these charitable organizations and their activities, and that they be so amusingly highlighted with exciting photos and informative stories. Especially these days with so much negative news, we need a break, and to that end Amy Paradsz’s “Society Notebook” on Sundays was something we could look forward to seeing and reading. It was so very popular and conversational, so please bring it back, and let’s have fun once again with our Sunday newspaper.
