Regarding the second ballot question in November, should Maine adopt a red flag law, it’s helpful to see what other states have done to deal with unstable people who have weapons.
How many states have a yellow flag law? Only Maine. When other state lawmakers investigated what other states were doing, not one said, “Yep, Maine’s law is what we need.” But 21 states and the District of Columbia have adopted the red flag law.
Why? Because it allows the family members, who know the subject best, to appeal directly to the courts to have the weapons temporarily removed from the house.
