Voters chose incumbent Michael Perkins and newcomer Susan Leigh to fill two seats on Oakland’s governing board.
Perkins, who earned 1,168 votes, and Leigh, who earned 1,115 votes, topped the field of candidates. Edward Roderick received 611 votes, and Rodney Williams Sr. received 242 votes.
When running for reelection, Perkins said Oakland’s biggest challenge is keeping the taxes down, and not overspending.
“There’s a lot of old people who live in Oakland,” Perkins said. “We can’t tax them to death and tax them out of their houses. That is our biggest challenge.”
Leigh likewise identified keeping taxes down as one of the community’s challenges as well as maintaining and improving the services that residents rely on.
