Josh Nadeau and Brandon Holt scored 16 seconds apart late in the first period, starting Maine on its way to a 6-2 win over UMass in a Hockey East game Thursday night in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Nadeau finished with two goals and two assists. He opened the scoring with a short-handed goal at 18:54 of the first period, then added a power-play goal in the third.
Justin Poirier got his ninth goal of the season during a 5-on-3 power play, and Sully Scholle and Miguel Marques also scored for the sixth-ranked Black Bears (6-2-1, 3-0 Hockey East), who outshot 13th-ranked UMass (6-4, 0-2) by a 54-16 margin. Owen Fowler had three assists.
Maine has won four in a row.
The teams meet again Friday night in Amherst.
