Mike Posma scored twice, including a short-handed goal, and the Wheeling Nailers dealt the Maine Mariners just their second regulation loss of the ECHL season, posting a 5-0 victory Friday night in West Virginia.
The Mariners entered the game in first place in the North Division with a 7-1-1-1 record, but Wheeling (8-1) grabbed a share of the division lead by extending its winning streak to seven games. Maine had a four-game winning streak snapped.
Max Graham, Jack Works and Matthew Quercia also scored for the Nailers, and Jake Smith made 26 saves. Smith, 30, joined Wheeling this season after nine seasons in Europe.
Maine avoided a shutout when James Marooney scored with 1:01 remaining. Mariners goalie Luke Cavallin finished with 22 saves.
