Virginia Commonwealth went on a 14-0 run starting late in the second quarter and beat Maine 81-77 in a women’s basketball game Friday night in Richmond, Virginia.
The Black Bears (0-3) had a 10-point lead with 3:01 left in the second quarter before the Rams pulled within two at the half, 32-30. VCU (2-1) took the lead for good on a jump shot by Lucia Sotelo Miguez with 6:39 left in the third quarter.
Kaliyah Sain scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Maine. Adrianna Smith finished with 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds, and Asta Blauenfeldt added 17 points.
Katarina Knezevic led VCU with 19 points. Cyriah Griffin and Ann Zachariah each added 16 and Patricia Augustin scored 12.
