Rajanah Reed scored 15 minutes into the first half, and the University of Central Florida beat Maine 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division I women’s soccer tournament Friday in Orlando, Florida.
The Black Bears lost in the first round for the third straight season and end the year with a record of 6-8-4. Central Florida improves to 12-3-5 and advances to face No. 2 Duke in the second round. The Blue Devils beat Elon, 3-0 on Friday.
Hannah Boughton added a goal in the second half for Central Florida.
Maine earned an automatic bid to the NCAAs by beating Vermont in penalty kicks in the America East Conference championship game.
Elena Barenburg stopped three shots for Maine, while Central Florida’s Genesis Perez Watson made two saves.
