David William Mead
MADISON – David William Mead, 81, passed away peacefully on Nov. 10, 2025, at Woodlands Memory Care of Madison. Born on Dec. 8, 1943, in Augusta to William and Christine (Bouffard) Mead, David lived a life dedicated to education, family, and community.
A proud graduate of Cony High School (Class of 1962), David continued his education at Thomas College in Waterville where he met the love of his life, Mary Smith. They married and shared 60 wonderful years together. David earned his bachelor’s in education in 1966, then continued on to receive his master’s from UNE and began a remarkable teaching career that spanned over 49 years. He taught at Higgins classical Institute in Charleston for two years before joining Leavitt Area High School in Turner and later Central Maine Community College in Auburn, where he inspired countless students.
David was predeceased by his parents, William and Christine Mead.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary; his sister, Sharon Saindon; his three children, William with his wife Tara, Kenneth with his wife Yun Jung, and Carrie Klein with her husband Brian; his grandchildren, Cameron, Riley, Jackson, David Mead II, and Cassie; and great-grandson, Gabriel Mead.
David will be remembered for his commitment to education, his love for his family, and his gentle, kind spirit. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the generations he nurtured.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 17, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Somerset Valley Remembrance Center, located at 19 Washburn Lane, in Skowhegan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m., at Christ the King Parish in Skowhegan.
A Rite of Committal will be held in Spring 2026.
