Kerry Mansir, Rector of the church said the spire and bell were removed so there would be less weight on the walls while the tower was being repaired so the spire and bell were removed.

Kerry Mansir, Rector of Christ Episcopal Church said the original plan was to put a support around the tower and repair it in place. But upon further inspection they found that the tower’s structural integrity was worse than expected and wall were so deteriorated that they couldn’t safely do it that way.

We don’t have final numbers on the additional work because the design of the spire and what the materials will cost,” Rev. Kerry Mansir, Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, said. They’re estimating it will be an additional $500,000 to $600,000 all together, they’ll need to raise about another $400,000 to replace the spire.
