“The Swede of Philadelphia,” the documentary on the life of Pelle Lindbergh, will play at Apple Cinema in Westbrook on Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. The film, directed by Charlie Minn, will return to the theater for a week-long run beginning Dec. 12.
The film tells the story of Lindbergh, who was killed on Nov. 10, 1985, when he drove his Porsche drunk after a Philadelphia Flyers team party in New Jersey. Prior to joining the Flyers, where he won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goalie in the 1984-85 season, Lindbergh played a season and a half with the Maine Mariners, the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate at the time.
“All that blew up based on a poor decision that cost him everything and could’ve killed two other people,” Minn said at an event in May promoting the film.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
