WINTHROP DIFFERENCE MAKERS: Junior RB/LB Ross Fichthorn (910 rushing yards, 14 TDs); Junior RB Carter Rand (833 rushing yards, 6 TDs); Senior WR/CB Ben Porter (22 receptions, 532 receiving yards, 8 TDs, 4 INTs); Senior WR Brody Adams (17 receptions, 281 yards, 6 TDs); Senior QB Jacob Feith (41 of 81 passing, 799 yards, 12 TDs); Senior OL/LB Brock Dewar (70 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks)

OUTLOOK: If you love old school Maine high school football, this is the game for you. It pits one of the most electric offenses in the state in Winslow, which is averaging 421.8 rushing yards and 50.3 points per game, against one of the state’s stingiest defenses in Winthrop, which has allowed just 6.6 points per game.

There’s no secret to the Black Raiders’ offense. Winslow runs the double-wing to perfection. Loubier is the top freshman in Maine. Though he’s just 5-foot-6, he has explosive speed and has paired well with Hobbi, a standout sprinter and hurdler for the track team. Fortin brings experience to the quarterback position.

Offensively, Winthrop will attack with its two-headed rushing attack of Fichthorn, a bruising runner, and Rand, a quick, twitchy change-of-pace back. Feith is a solid leader behind center and has great chemistry in the passing game with Porter and Adams. Defensively, Winthrop is led by Dewar, who has a nose for the ball. Fichthorn brings physicality from his linebacker spot, and Porter uses his height and instincts well in the secondary.

Winslow is seeking its first Gold Ball since 2015, the last state crown of the Mike Siviski era. The legendary coach led the Black Raiders to seven of their 11 state championships. Winthrop is looking for its first state championship since winning the Class C title in 2000. The Ramblers have been to two state finals since then (2008, 2021) but lost both games.
