AUGUSTA – Robert Dexter “Bob” Lawrence, 87, passed away peacefully on Nov. 15, 2025, in Augusta.

Born on June 22, 1938, in Waterville, Bob was son of Bliss Lawrence Sr. and May (Corliss) Lawrence. He grew up in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School in 1956. Shortly after graduation, he proudly served his country for four years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Iowa.

Bob built a life defined by hard work and dedication. He was an owner-operator truck driver, plowed snow and was later a foreman for the Maine Department of Transportation. His work ethic was matched only by his integrity and commitment to those around him.

He shared 57 loving years of marriage to his wife, Linda. Together they raised three children, twin sons Roy (Betty) and Ray (Kim), and daughter Gretchen (Steven). Bob was immensely proud of his family and found great joy in watching it grow. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, Clayton Dexter, Larissa, Kolby, Sydney, Austin, Gretta, and Lily; and four great-grandchildren, Dexter, Xavier, Piper and Colton Robert.

Bob was also survived by his sister Barbra Witham. He was predeceased by his parents: siblings Paul, Bliss “Tiny”, Marie, and Clara.

A man of deep character-strong, honest, funny, and loving- Bob lived life fully and generously. He loved the outdoors, that led him on countless trips to the Northern Maine woods for snowmobiling and ice fishing. Many memories were made at the family camp on Kingsbury Pond. Bob enjoyed many days around his farm with his Hereford cows…sometimes chasing them up Main Street.

Bob was an active member of Masonic Lodge #146 and valued the camaraderie and service that came with the membership.

He loved to travel with Linda – from exploring the Allagash wilderness to relaxing in the Caribbean. Their adventures took them across the US as well, to Alaska, the Grand Canyon, Glacier National Park and many other destinations. Bob believed in making plans and taking trips because memories made together would last forever.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A memorial gathering will be held on Nov. 24, 2025 from 2:00 to 6:00 at Waterville Elks Lodge lounge, 76 Industrial Drive.
