Alex Ainsworth made three saves in the penalty kick shootout and Bowdoin beat Connecticut College 1-0 on Saturday in Medford, Massachusetts, to advance to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Division III men’s soccer tournament.

Bowdoin improves to 13-3-3 and advances to face NESCAC rival Tufts at 1 p.m., Sunday with a berth in the Final Four on the line. Connecticut College ends the season 12-4-5.

After the Camels’ Marco Perugini and the Polar Bears’ Tyler Huck scored on the first attempts of the shootout, Ainsworth and Conn. College’s Connor Smith each made a save. Ainsworth also made a stop on the Camels’ third attempt and Liam Myers scored to give Bowdoin a 2-1 lead.

Max Weiss pulled the Camels within one on the fourth attempt. Keito Ishibashi put the Polar Bears up 3-2 and Ainsworth stopped Samuel Brockelman’s attempt to secure the win for Bowdoin.
