Alex Johnson’s go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute lifted Tufts to a 2-1 win over Bowdoin in an NCAA Division III men’s soccer quarterfinal Sunday in Medford, Massachusetts.
Mason Shultz assisted for the Jumbos (18-1-3).
Tufts’ Ben Brown opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 16th minute before Bowdoin’s Felipe Duran knotted the score in the 43rd minute, assisted by Paul Surkov.
Bowdoin (12-4-4) held advantages in shots (11-9) and corners (8-3).
The teams played to a scoreless draw in the regular season.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
BROWN 70, MAINE 39: Grace Arnolie scored 22 points and Alyssa Moreland added 15 as the Bears (3-2) rolled to victory in Providence, Rhode Island.
Asta Blauenfeldt scored 10 points for Maine (1-4), which trailed 21-2 after one quarter and was held 15 for 57 (26.3%) shooting from the floor and 3 for 23 (13.0%) from 2-point range.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
BROWN 58, MAINE 53: Landon Lewis and N’famara Dabo scored 11 points each as the Bears (1-5) led throughout the game and took a matchup of winless teams in Orono.
TJ Biel scored 12 points for Maine (0-5), followed by Ryan Mabrey with 11. Newport native Ace Flagg led the Black Bears with six rebounds.
