Lucille Marie Roy

WATERVILLE – On Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, Lucille Marie Roy of Waterville, Maine, peacefully passed away at 92 years of age.

Lucille “Lu” Roy was born on July 14, 1933, in Waterville, where she spent her entire life residing on Veteran Court. She was the tenth child among eleven siblings born to Philippe Auguste Roy and Marie Jeanne Couture Roy.

Lucille was predeceased by all ten of her siblings and all but one of their spouses, Louis Roy (Rachel), Emile Roy (Rose), Joseph Roy, Elie Roy (Evangeline and later Jean), Noel Roy (June), Yvette Roy, Theresa Boudreau (Joseph), Sister Marie Roy, Anna Bolduc (Richard), and Gabrielle Roy. She is also predeceased by four nephews, Richard Roy, James Boudreau, Ronald Boudreau, and Andrew Roy.

Lucille is survived by one sister-in-law, Theresa Roy, the wife of Joseph Roy, and is lovingly remembered by dozens of nieces and nephews, their spouses and children.

Lucille was educated in the Waterville school system and was a devoted, lifelong parishioner at Notre Dame Catholic Church.

Her greatest joys were singing with her family at midnight mass and later hosting her entire family for Christmas celebrations. Her home was known for its open doors and welcoming atmosphere, embracing family and friends throughout the year. Family meant everything to Lucille and her beloved sister Gabie, and together they made it a point to celebrate every joyful occasion, special event, and accomplishment, no matter how numerous. Lucille was deeply sentimental, preserving family mementos and serving as the family historian to ensure that cherished photographs and stories would be passed on to future generations.

Lucille loved her family deeply. She was a fierce protector, always determined and quick to ensure things were done right, earning her the love and respect of all who knew her.

Lucille will be remembered for her selflessness and her unwavering care for others. She consistently put others ahead of herself, offering love, safety, warmth, and kindness to every family she embraced as her own. Guests who stayed overnight at her home were greeted with breakfast served on warmed plates and a cozy bed with pressed cotton sheets and a heated electric blanket. Saturday evenings were filled with laughter, wine, coffee, and heartfelt discussion among aunts and uncles. Sunday visits might include homemade soup in a mug with a potholder, while enjoying classic films and television programs in the living room. Lu and Gabie extended their love to everyone, treating them as their own children whenever a need arose, and making their home a true refuge. Fourteen Veteran Court was the hub holding together the Roy, Boudreau, and Bolduc families, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Our family hopes to continue sharing the gifts of hospitality, deep family connection, and love with all.

Lucille’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Northern Light Continuing Care Lakewood in Waterville, as well as to the Beacon Hospice Caregivers, for the excellent care they provided. Their compassion, support, and respect were deeply felt and brought much care and tenderness to Lu, especially in her final days. The family is truly appreciative of everyone who touched her life and contributed to her peace and comfort.

Visitation will be on Dec/ 4 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. at Veilleux-Redington- Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, and there will be a mass on Dec. 5 at 9 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Waterville. Along with Lucille, the family would like to celebrate the life of Lu’s beloved sister, Anna (Roy) Bolduc.

Anna will always be remembered as a loving, giving, and hard-working woman, who loved and cherished her family.
