David Turner Burnett

AUGUSTA – David Turner Burnett, 91, has taken his leave of this world on Nov. 20, 2025.

He was born in Beverly, Mass., on Dec. 7, 1933 to Henry Hilton Burnett and Flora Vivien Turner.

David was a Korean War Army Veteran, SP4, in the Chemical Corps. In 1956, as part of Operation Redwing, he witnessed the detonation of the first deliverable H-Bomb on the Bikini Islands while aboard the USS Curtiss AV-4 in the Pacific Ocean.

He was active in the community of Hallowell by coaching and later umpiring Hallowell/Farmingdale Little League, volunteering for Hallowell Fire Department and later promoted to Assistant Chief in the 70’s.

Always active and fit right up to a couple of days before he passed by walking the Rail Trail for 2.5 miles.

He enjoyed baseball and pitched Farm League in his youth, brook fishing, ice fishing, golf, being outdoors, bowling, long conversations over coffee and time spent with family among his favorites.

Quick witted, corny humor and full of vim and vigor, always groomed to the nines and a very handsome brown eyed man.

In honor of Dad’s Irish heritage, we offer this prayer: May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, the rain fall softly on your fields and, until we meet again, may God hold in the palm of His hand.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.
