I want to express my sincere appreciation for Sen. Susan Collins and the work she has done to reopen the federal government and to secure important funding for communities across Maine.

When the government shut down, Sen. Collins was one of the first leaders to step forward and push for a responsible path to reopening. She has always understood that political standoffs hurt families, businesses and local governments. Her steady leadership helped bring an end to a situation that was hurting people throughout our state. That is the kind of practical and thoughtful approach we need more of in Washington, D.C.

I am especially grateful for Sen. Collins’ efforts to secure federal funding for Maine fire stations and emergency services — including significant funding directed to the new Belgrade Fire and Rescue Station. For a small town like ours, this support is not something we take for granted. It means our firefighters and rescue personnel will have the resources and facilities they need to keep our community safe. It means better equipment, improved response times and greater peace of mind for the families who call Belgrade home.

Sen. Collins delivered these results because she puts in the hard work and knows how to bring people together to get things done. At a time when it can feel like nothing gets accomplished in Washington, D.C., she continues to show that experience, cooperation and commitment still matter.

This is why we need to send Sen. Susan Collins back to the United States Senate.
