Share the Wonder

For some free, family-friendly fun, head to the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland for Share the Wonder. The event includes a display of artist-designed holiday trees, live music from the Bay Chamber Jazz Ensemble, art activities, cookie decorating, hot cocoa and other festivities. The first 100 guests will receive a free sketchbook. While you’re there, check out the museum’s current exhibits.

South Portland Tree Lighting & Knightville Holiday Stroll
4-7 p.m. Friday. Mill Creek Park, South Portland. southportland.gov.
The Mill Creek Park tree lighting signifies the start of South Portland’s holiday season, and you can be part of it. Enjoy a petting zoo, live music, fire pits, selfies with Santa and concessions by local school PTO groups. Shining and sharing is the theme of this year’s event, and participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, unwrapped holiday gifts and winter clothing. You can also roam around the Knightville neighborhood from 4-8 p.m. during the Holiday Stroll. Local businesses, including Verbena, Streetwich, Heirloom Consignment and Seabird Aromatics, will have special treats.

Art on the Hill

Art on the Hill is one of Portland’s longest-running holiday craft fairs. Put on by the Society for East End Arts, the three-day fair features a wide range of handmade items from dozens of area and regional artists and makers. Vendors include Blue Butterfield Woodcuts, Laceypots and Squirrel’s Nest Jewelry.
‘Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair’

Director Quentin Tarantino is finally delivering on a long-held promise to fans of his iconic revenge movies. More than 20 years after the release of “Kill Bill: Volume 1” (2003) and “Kill Bill: Volume 2” (2004), the films are being presented as the single feature Tarantino always intended. “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair,” is packed with never-before-seen footage. This means you’ll revel all the more in Uma Thurman’s iconic, sword-wielding turn as The Bride. The single cut cinematic experience clocks in at just shy of five hours, with one 15-minute intermission.

St. Lucia’s Day Procession

Mayo Street Arts offers up a unique celebration of light. The St. Lucia’s Day procession welcomes Santa Lucia and her crown of candles, with several children in tow. The Swedish Saint Lucia Day is a sacred holiday that honors the young Christian martyr. According to legend, St. Lucia wore a wreath topped with lit candles, freeing up her hands to deliver food to those hiding in Roman catacombs. Boston-based women’s vocal group Merulae will be performing songs in Swedish and English.

The Mallett Brothers Band

Maine-based alt.country/Americana act The Mallett Brothers Band headline the State Theatre on Saturday, with seven albums’ worth of music to choose from. Earlier this year, the band, led by brothers Will and Luke Mallett, released “Higher Up in the Hills.”
