AUGUSTA – Roberta Hart Gamage, better known as “Bobbie”, 85, passed away peacefully at Maine General Hospital in Augusta early Saturday Morning, Nov. 29, 2025.

Bobbie was born in Augusta on June 20, 1940, to the late Elbridge and Muriel (Shaw) Hart. She graduated from Cony High School and became a nurse after attending nursing school in Lewiston.

During her time as a student at Cony High School, she met the love of her life, Newman Gamage; they married in August of 1961. Following nursing training, she worked at Augusta General Hospital. She and Newman lived on Church Hill Rd., where they operated a dairy farm, originally owned by Newman’s parents (Vernon and Wilma Gamage).

In 1963, the first of their six children was born. Bobbie continued to work as a nurse until their family grew large enough that what became most important and rewarding to her was to become a stay-at-home Mom. That job comes with many titles, to name a few: wife, mother, cook, gardener, landscaper, nurse, entertainer, referee, truck driver, parts attendant, chauffer, and most of all, home-maker.

Bobbie was the organist at the Augusta Baptist Church for many years. She not only had a Faith in Jesus Christ, but more importantly, she lived by that faith. Always happy and chipper, she was ever-ready to get the gang going.

She hardly ever took time for herself; if asked to go somewhere, she would always reply “‘Newman” or ‘Dad’ might need me for something.” Being there for her children brought her the upmost joy. She spent many hours feeding and caring for them.

Bobbie loved it when the neighborhood kids would call her “Mrs. Gam”, and most of all, when it became “Momma Gam.” A generous and caring spirit who would always welcome everyone with open arms.

Some of her greatest joys also came from time spent with grandkids, playing marbles and Rummy even if it was past “Nana Gam’s” bedtime.

She was a woman of faith, love, kindness, grace and mercy.

In addition to her loving husband of 64 years, she is survived by her six children, Betsy and husband Dan Delavan, their children and grandkids; Scott and Jolene Gamage, their kids and granddaughters; Steve and Lynn Gamage, their kids; Dale and Rhonda Gamage, their kids; Barbara and Mark Owens, their kids; and Tom and Cindy Gamage and their kids. She also leaves behind many close relatives and friends.

Bobbie was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Greg Hart.

Bobbie’s visitation will be held on Saturday Dec. 6 from 9 – 11 a.m. at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. Her funeral service will follow shortly after, starting at 1:30 p.m. at Augusta Baptist Church, 2567 North Belfast Ave., Augusta. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, One Church Street, Augusta, Maine.
