We’re proud to make high school sports coverage free for everyone—because these moments matter. At Maine State Credit Union, we’re here for the people and places that make Maine strong. Let’s Go! Learn more at mainestatecu.org.
Sean Achorn, Messalonskee junior guard: The Eagles don’t return much from last year’s Class A North title-winning team, but Achorn, who averaged 9.3 points. 6.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists, is ready for a bigger role.
Brady Atwater, Gardiner senior forward: Atwater (11.0 points per game last season) was a leader for a team that was the runner-up in summer league play at Cony. He will be one of the top forwards in central Maine.
Wyatt Bennett, Mount View senior forward: The Mustangs are known as a team no one in Class C wants to face come tournament time. They return a solid core that includes Bennett (13.2 points, 6.7 rebounds per game last season).
Seth Bowden, Nokomis senior forward: Bowden led the Warriors in points (13.3) and rebounds per game (6.4) last season. He was also an underrated shooter, ranking eighth in the KVAC in 3-point percentage (39.2).

Carter Brathwaite, Cony freshman guard: Considered the premier freshman in a loaded Class of 2029, Brathwaite should be one of the region’s best players and will play a key role for a team with Class B championship ambitions.
Derek Couture, Waterville senior guard: The Purple Panthers will be young and inexperienced, but they do have a veteran leader in Couture, who averaged 14.3 points last season and was a top 3-point shooter.
Jaxson Desjardins, Forest Hills sophomore guard: Desjardins averaged 21.6 points last year, and with 700 total points through his eighth-grade and freshman seasons, has a good chance of reaching 1,000 for his career this winter.
Evan Drake, Mt. Blue sophomore forward: Drake impressed as a freshman last season, averaging seven points and seven rebounds. With the Cougars having graduated key players, expect him to be their No. 1 option.
Karter Eldridge, Hall-Dale junior forward: Opposing coaches see the Bulldogs as one of the tougher outs in Class C South, and Eldridge, who averaged 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds last winter, might be their top player.

Jack Fontaine, Maranacook junior guard: Fontaine was one of central Maine’s top players as a sophomore, when he averaged 19 points per game. Expect an even bigger season from him this winter as the Black Bears look to take a leap.
Levi Laverdiere, Monmouth Academy junior guard: Laverdiere, a premier shooter who averaged 16.1 points per game and shot 88 percent from the free-throw line, is the top returning scorer for a team that’s expected to be a contender in Class D.
Jacob Linkletter, Madison sophomore forward: Linkletter, who averaged 15 points last season, was one of the top shooters in the MVC. Madison coach Jason Furbush says the sophomore has gotten stronger and improved on defense.
Harry Louis, Valley senior guard: Along with teammate Fisher Tewksbury, Louis, who averaged 14.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists last season, is one of the top players for a team that’s the favorite in Class S.
Parker Morin, Cony senior forward: After an all-time great football season, Morin, who averaged 18.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.0 blocks last winter, is set for another big season on the basketball court.

Killian Pillsbury, Mt. Abram senior guard: Mt. Abram will contend for another Gold Ball this season as it moves to Class D, and in Pillsbury, a knockdown shooter, the Roadrunners boast one of the best players in their new class.
Also keep an eye on: Carter Calvo, Winslow junior forward; Brennan Mitchell, Mt. Abram junior forward; Trace Moody, Gardiner junior guard; Trevor Pellerin, Lawrence senior guard; Fisher Tewksbury, Valley senior forward.
