Gwyneth C. Quimby

AUGUSTA – Gwyneth C. Quimby, 78, died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, at her home following a brief illness. She was born in Houlton, Maine on Sept. 6, 1947, a daughter of the late John H. and Thelma (Reed) Chadwick.

Gwyneth graduated from Cony High School and the University of Maine at Presque Isle with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught for 15 years at Manchester Elementary School and then retired to be a stay at home mom. Her life as a stay at home mom centered on her children as they progressed through the Augusta schools, volunteering at each school, and then onto the University of Maine at Farmington.

Once her children moved on in their lives Gwyneth’s focus turned to caring for her parents, tracing her family roots, reading, and enjoying the growth of her grandchildren. Gwyneth always had her camera ready for that next picture. She looked forward to the summer stays at the family camp on East Grand Lake, especially, when family visited.

Gwyneth was predeceased by her daughter Jennifer K. Paquette.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years Darrel Quimby of Augusta; her son, Justin Quimby and his wife Karen of Rangeley; her sister Meredith Chadwick of Mashpee, Mass.; grandchildren Addisyn and Kiley; special cousins Michael McVicker (Karen) and Douglass Chadwick (Marilyn); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family expresses its sincerest thanks to MaineGeneral Hospice for the support they provided to Gwyneth and Darrel during Gwyneth’s illness.

There will be no public visiting hours. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Episcopal Church, 209 Eastern Ave, Augusta. A private burial will be held in the spring in Rangeley.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME. Condolences, stories and photos may be shared at http://www.plummerfh.com.
