Donna McGilvery Karagiannes
AUGUSTA – Donna McGilvery Karagiannes passed away comfortably on November 29, 2025 at the age of 70. Born on June 17, 1955 in Augusta, Maine, Donna lived a life filled with hard work, love and simple pleasures.
Donna, a Cony High School alum, married Michael Karagiannes in 1974 and together they built a life in Augusta raising their children Angela, Ryan, Laura, and Katie.
Donna spent years working for the Internal Revenue Service before transferring to the Togus VA where she was the secretary for the Chief of Psychology. Outside of work, Donna enjoyed puzzles, crafting, coffee, playing on her computer, going to lawn sales and building her numerous collections, particularly Boyd’s Bears, Little Golden Books, and blue and white China, as well as spending time with her beloved husband, children and grandchildren. Donna will be remembered for her gentle affect, bright smile, kind heart, and her big ole bear hugs.
Donna is survived by her husband of 51 years, Michael; their children Angela (Jennifer), Ryan, Laura (Frank), and Katie; and grandchildren Mervin and Luca. She was predeceased by her parents Selwyn and Juliette McGilvery; her brother Robert, her sister June; her daughters Michelle and Melissa; and most recently her best friend and golden retriever Bailey. She will be remembered fondly by countless other friends, family, and loved ones.
Donna’s visitation will be held on Saturday Dec. 13 from 2 – 4 p.m. at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St. Augusta, with a funeral service to follow immediately after. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
